St. Lukes Quakertown held a Safety Day event at the St. Lukes Bone & Joint Center on Park Avenue today from 10-3. Throughout the day Rescue 18 and Engine 17-1 were on display along with the Quakertown PD and St. Luke Ambulance. Also on display were many different tents to inform you about health and safety. A K-9 demonstration was performed by the QPD while the QFD spent the day handing out fire prevention material and letting childeren get a chance to spray the hose at our dwelling fire prop. The afternoon was capped off by the Rescue Co's vehicle rescue demonstration.

Crews from the 18 house finished off a long day of community events by attending a block party held by the Calvary Chapel of Quakertown on New Street. Squirt 18 and Engine 17 were on display for a short time during the 5 hour event. The block party featured food, music, games, a moon bounce, and horse-drawn carriage rides. The crews spent their time at the event showing the apparatus and educating the public about fire safety.

On Saturday the Squirt and Engine 17 along with local Police departments assisted in escorting the 9th annual Coopersburg HOG toy run through portions of Quakertown Borough and Richland Township. Nearly 500 motorcycles organized at the Giant on Route 309 next to the Lowes and began their journey to Doylestown. The fee to enter the run was a new unwrapped gift, gift card or cash donation. All donations benefit the Bucks County Childeren and Youth Services of Doylestown.

Station 57 was dispatched for a rescue box on the turnpike with a reported rolled over pickup truck on the south bound on ramp with entrapment. C57 went on scene and confirmed one entrapped and advised Rescue 18 they would need to lift the truck off the patient. Crews went on scene and split the crew half to stabilize and the other half to set up to lift the truck. After a door pop on the drivers door crews lifted the truck off the patient with the 32" spreaders. Crews were back in service within an hour.

Companies were dispatched for a rescue box at 663 and Hickory. C87 went on scene confirming a door pop was needed to get the patient out. Rescue 18 was assigned the door pop while Engine 17 took care of hazards. Crews made quick of the extrication and were back in service within 18 minutes of dispatch.

Friday evening a couple of members attended a beef and beer at the Pa State Firemans Convention in Lake Harmony. Members were presented with a donation check from Rachel Lennon who was running for parade princess. For every dollar she raised was 1 vote. Congratulations to Rachel for winning and many thanks from all the members of Quakertown West End for your Generous donation just over $4,000. Saturdays events started at 830am in the morning with cleaning the trucks for the parade before there long journey to Lake Harmony. The Tower,Squirt,Utility,Chief 87, and Batt. 18 all made the trip. Judging took place before the parade at Pocono Raceway. After the parade through Lake Harmony members congregated at the convention where they were awarded with a 1st place trophy for best in category for QRS vehicle and a 2nd place trophy for 2001 and older Tower.

Companies were dispatched early Tuesday morning for a traffic accident that ended with one vehicle up on a bridge wall. Rescue 18 arrived on scene and went in service with stablizing the vehicle with its winch and come-a-long chains so that crews could secure power of the vehicle that was still in drive with the tires spinning. Engine 17 arrived and pulled a protection line. Companies stayed on scene until the vehicle was removed by a tow service.

The morning started off with a response to an automatic fire alarm call @ 9:30. Then crews from 17,18, and 58's attending the annual memorial service @ the American Legion Post 242 in Quakertown. Members had some time in the afternoon to relax before they made there journey to Molasses Creek Park to attend a 10yr anniversary memorial service hosted by Trumbauersville. The night consisted of a ceremony as well as a luminary lighting. Let us never forget those 343 firefighters who never thought twice about going into those towers. RIP Brothers.

Crews on Saturday attended Station 17s housing of Chemical 17 and Engine 17-1 and dedication to there new building expansion. The day was filled with truck judging and a ceremony with many guest speakers. The ceremony ended with all the officers of the QFD pushing the 2 trucks into the station. While there the squirt ran a dwelling fire with Milford and the Tower was called to cover Montgomery county Sta. 65 who was assisting Red Hill in a apartment fire. Congratulations to all the members for a job well done on 2 new pieces of apparatus and the new building expansion.

Hurricane Irene hit the local hard Saturday night into Sunday morning. Crews staffed the house from 6pm Saturday until 6pm Sunday. The night started off with an automatic C02 alarm call from an electric surge. Crews throughout the night ran multiple calls for flooded basements, stranded motorists, and wires down. Once the rain had stopped crews helped the citizens of Quakertown Boro and Richland Township pump out multiple basements.
