BOX ASSIGNMENT IN THE FIRST DUE

Saturday, November 12, 2011  17,18,57,58, and 26 apparatus were dispatched for a reported building fire at the Friendly's resturaunt.  BC17 went on scene with a light smoke condtion in the front counter checkout area.  DC setup Quakertown command.  Engine 17 pulled a line to the front door while Tower 18 setup the main to the roof.   With help from building maintenance the cause was narrowed down to a cigarette that caught a asphalt exansion joint on fire in front of the building.  Crews were back in service within 2 hrs.

   
 

JOB IN THE 18 LOCAL

Saturday, November 5, 2011  QFD was dispatched for a reported dwelling fire, DC87 went on scene shortly after with a smoke showing from the second floor.  The Tower went on scene soon after and went to the interior as well as to the roof.  Capt.18 reported heavy fire in a bedroom on the CD corner.  Engine 17s crew advanced to the 2nd floor and made a quick knock on the fire.  After extensive overhaul the companies were back in service within 3 hrs.  Pictures to follow

   
 

REST IN PEACE PAST CHIEF FRED GUENST

Tuesday, November 1, 2011  It is with deep regret the officers and members of the Quakertown Fire Department announce the death of Past Chief Fred Guenst, who passed away on October 30, 2011. The viewing will be held on Sunday November 6,2011 from 4pm to 7pm and Monday November 7, 2011 from 10am to 11am at the Jeffrey A Naugle Funeral Home located at 135 W. Pumping Station Road in Quakertown. Funeral services will be held Monday November 7, 2011 at 11am at the Jeffrey  A Naugle Funeral Home located at 135 W. Pumping Station Road in Quakertown with interment immediately following at the Union Cemetary located on Cemetary Road in Quakerotwn. Any Companies wishing to send apparatus should contact Chief Wilhelm.

Fred will be missed by all who knew him. He touched many people throughout his life and had many accomplishments. He was a former police officer in Quakertown and Lansdale, worked in law enforcement in southern states, was a Deputy Game Warden, and recently worked with security at the Quakertown Farmers Market. He formerly was head of Quakertown Borough Public Works, Quakertown Fire Marshal, and recently was the Fire Marshal for Richland Township. Fred was involved in fire service for years, a former member of Richlandtown Fire Co., West End Fire Co., where he served as Battalion Chief, and currently was an active member of Quakertown Fire Co. #1. He was a past Chief of the Quakertown Fire Dept., Battalion Chief for the Upper Bucks County Haz-Mat team, a Bucks County Fire School instructor, EMT, and currently was a PA Forest Fire Warden and former Patrolman. Fred was a member of numerous affiliated organizations and the American Legion in Quakertown.

Rest In Peace Fred, you will forever be in our hearts.

   


 

ICY CONDITIONS CAUSE 309 SHUTDOWN

Monday, October 31, 2011  After a busy weekend of running numerous calls Monday morning started off bright and early with a reported truck rolled over on 309 and wires down.  C87 went on scene with a tractor trailer on its side with live wires down on the truck.  The driver had self extricated himself.  QFD apparatus secured the scene and shut down 309 completely until PP&L could secure the power.  Companies were on scene for 5 hours until they were released.  While on scene Squirt 18 ran an auto extrication in 27's local and along with Engine 17 a working automobile fire in the 56 local.

     

 
 

FIRST SNOW STORM OF THE SEASON KEEPS AREA FIRE COMPANIES BUSY

Saturday, October 29, 2011  QFD firefighters, as well as fire companies all over bucks county were kept busy this weekend while the first snow fall hit our area. Crews ran dozens of calls during the day which consisted of calls for wires arching, traffic accidents, and dwelling fires.

   
 

QFD PARTICIPATES IN THE QUAKERTOWN HALLOWEEN PARADE

Sunday, October 23, 2011  All Station 17 and 18 apparatus participated in the annual Quakertown Halloween parade this Sunday. Both stations had a trailer so the Ladies Auxillary and kids of the members could also participate.

   
 

UPPER BUCKS BURN BUILDING REOPENS

Monday, October 17, 2011  Station 18 members used the burn building for the first time after it was reopened. Crews trained on truck company operations as well as advancing handlines.

     

 

QFD SPENDS THE DAY ON FIRE PREVENTION DETAIL

Thursday, October 13, 2011  The Squirt and apparatus from station 17 spent the day going to schools in the local teaching the younger grades about fire safety. The kids were able to see the equipment in the trucks and were given handouts on fire prevention and safety.

     

 

Standby at Mcdonalds

Wednesday, October 12, 2011  Crews from 17 & 18 had Engine 17 and Squirt 18 on display at Mcdonalds in Quakertown in appreciation of their generous donation of 25% of all their sales from 4-8pm.  All the members of the Quakertown Fire Dept. would like to thank all the customers who came out and Mcdonalds for their generous donation.
